Largest NEV Charging Station on Jiangsu Expressways Launched to Boost Green Travel

Source:

This article reports that Jiangsu’s largest expressway EV charging station has been launched at Baoying Service Area. To solve the shortage of charging facilities and long queues on expressways, the station is equipped with ample fast and slow chargers and adopts BIPV solar carports. It effectively eases EV owners’ range anxiety, improves travel experience and safety, and supports convenient green long-distance travel, winning high praise from users.
Recently, the largest new energy vehicle (NEV) charging station with the most charging points on Jiangsu’s expressways has been completed and put into operation at the newly built Baoying Service Area of Jiangsu Beijing-Shanghai Expressway Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Beijing-Shanghai Company), a subsidiary of Jiangsu Communications Control Group. This facility further satisfies the public’s demand for safe, convenient and green travel.

In recent years, China’s NEV industry has enjoyed vigorous development, with its production and sales volume growing rapidly and continuously. However, NEV charging still faces numerous difficulties and challenges. In expressway service areas, the limited number of charging piles, combined with the continuous surge in road network traffic – especially during holidays – often leads to long queues at charging stations and even a severe shortage of available charging points. This not only undermines the public’s travel experience but also raises safety risks.

"We must substantially increase the number of charging piles in service areas to effectively ease range anxiety, enabling electric vehicles to 'travel out, hit the road and return home safely', and letting more EV owners embark on long-distance trips with complete peace of mind." This was the clear goal set by the construction team at the outset of the Baoying Service Area project.

The construction of photovoltaic (PV) carports is a valuable practice of Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), and also an effective approach to accelerating the development of expressway charging infrastructure and meeting the long-distance charging needs of NEV owners. Building PV carports in service areas not only provides charging services for electric vehicles, but also offers drivers and passengers shade, rain shelter and pleasant landscape views. It enhances the utilization efficiency of parking shed space and achieves the organic integration of green energy application, high-quality parking conditions and landscape beautification.

"I always fretted about running out of battery when traveling far before. Every time I pulled into a service area, the first thing I checked was the charging station, hoping to find an empty spot to charge my car without hassle. Now it’s perfect – there are plenty of charging piles here, with both fast and slow charging options available, no more waiting in line. I’ll never worry about being unable to charge my car on the expressway again." Mr. Ma, an NEV owner who regularly travels along the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway, could not contain his delight at the upgrades to Baoying Service Area.
