1、 Prefabricated box type substation
Prefabricated box type substations were a common type in the early days, characterized by the installation of high and low voltage complete sets of equipment and transformers in a large metal box. In this design, there is usually an operating corridor inside the enclosure for equipment maintenance and repair. However, due to their large size and high space occupation, this type of box type substation has gradually been replaced by more efficient and compact designs.
Maintainability: Although the design of the operation corridor is easy to maintain, it also increases the footprint.
2、 Combination device type box type substation
The combination device type box substation, also known as European type box transformer or ordinary type box transformer, has the core of integrating high and low voltage control and protection electrical equipment directly into the box, forming a complete and independent power system. This design takes into account the maintenance free requirements, thus omitting the operation corridor and greatly reducing the volume of the box.
Small size: saves space and is more suitable for land scarce areas such as cities.
Maintenance free: reduces daily maintenance workload and lowers long-term operating costs.
3、 Integrated box type substation
The integrated box type substation, also known as the American box type substation or compact box type substation, further simplifies the high voltage control and protection devices, and integrates the entire high and low voltage distribution equipment with the transformer body into one transformer oil tank, achieving higher integration and smaller volume. Its volume is close to that of an oil immersed transformer of the same capacity, but it provides much better functionality than the latter.
Highly integrated: All devices share the same casing, significantly reducing footprint and space usage.
With the acceleration of urbanization and continuous technological progress, the design of box type substations is developing towards miniaturization, intelligence, and environmental protection. Prefabricated box type substations have gradually withdrawn from the mainstream market due to their size and operational limitations. The combination device type and integrated box type substations are increasingly favored by the market due to their high efficiency and compact characteristics.
